I purchased a 1973 Honda CB750 to build my first custom 'café racer' motorcycle.
The bike needed a lot of work. Luckily, I was building it with my father a long-time motorcycle mechanic and Triumph enthusiast. For starters, we cleaned and fixed up the carbs, petcock and gas tank to get it running. The stock exhaust was rusted-out, so it was swapped with a new, and very loud, 4 into 1 along with some vintage open velocity stacks. This involved some fine tuning and jetting. To help shape the look of the bike we chopped bits of the frame and fenders. For a better, smoother ride the front/rear suspension was replaced. The wheels were powder coated, laced up with fresh spokes and finished off with some knobby tires.
The project helped me understand some basic motorcycle mechanics and appreciate the amount of time it takes to build bikes. Years later and a few tweaks here and there, I couldn’t be happier. A big thank you to my father for all the help and time building this motorcycle.
